On April 11, 2024, the largest Polish conference dedicated to the AWS cloud took place in Warsaw – AWS Community Day Poland 2024. Emotions have not yet subsided even though several days have passed since the event. This event was a great opportunity to meet many cloud enthusiasts, other AWS Community Builders and AWS Heroes. In addition to networking, there was a chance to attend planty of valuable technical sessions. After this short introduction I invite you to read the rest of my opinion about this event 😀.
Table of Contents
Intro
This event was a 3rd edition of AWS Community Day in Poland and also a 3rd time I’ve attended this event. During 1st edition of the event I was in a role of an attendee, on the 2nd edition I was a speaker with a session called “Networks not so scary with Amazon VPC Lattice” (If you’re interested in this topic, you can read my blog post with the recap of this session here). This year I focused on networking and talking to people, so I participated again as in the 1st edition, as a general attendee (and I had a lot of fun because of that 😎).
Place
AWS Community Day Poland 2024 took place in Copernicus Conference Center in Warsaw. The organizers have set the bar high when it comes to choosing a venue, and they made it. There were a lot of people, more than in recent years, but the place also allowed for more. We had more tracks with technical sessions, more on-site attractions organized by partners, more time for networking, and finally a great lunch and snacks in between.
Sessions
There were 4 tracks with sessions available at the event. So everyone could find something for themselves.
When choosing the sessions I would go to, I was guided by my heart, and the topic of serverless is closest to it. So I couldn’t miss the lecture of Paweł Zubkiewicz about ways to optimize costs in the AWS cloud for busy developers. Paweł is an AWS Serverless Hero and has already shown many times what he is capable of when it comes to presentations that can interest a crowd. Without unnecessary spoilers… If you want to read the summary of his lecture, I encourage you to visit the Serverless Polska blog here (content is in Polish).
The second session I went to was Karolina Boboli‘s session on cleaning resources in AWS accounts. There was a strong content filled with live demos and interesting ways to understand what we have in our AWS accounts and how to carry out the decision-making process regarding the possible deletion of resources.
Unfortunately, I could not attend the session of the next AWS Serverless Hero – Luc van Donkersgoed entitled “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants – Embracing Serverless in the Enterprise” (due to a parallel session I’ve attended). But after talking to other people who managed to be at Luc’s session, I can only say that it’s a pity I couldn’t split to be able to join… 😥
People
I left what is most important for last, i.e. people. AWS Community Day is an opportunity to meet many of cloud enthusiasts. These people often travel from foreign countries (e.g. I did a high five with an AWS User Group leader from Malta❗️). Apart from people from abroad, there were also many inspiring personalities from Poland in various roles – AWS Heros, AWS Community Builders, and even more sophisticated roles such as Developer Advocate at AWS (hmmmm who might it be 😉).
And finally, the best of the best, i.e. colleagues from the cloud team from my company.
It was a great to meet you guys ❤️. I hope we’ll meet soon again and I can’t wait for the next edition of AWS Community Day in Poland!
